Top 10 Best Couch Covers For Dogs
When you first got your puppy, you had the best of intentions. You’d have strong boundaries, and you would never allow him to jump up on the couch.
Then he gave you those puppy-dog eyes — and your couch became his couch. However, that also meant that he left behind quite a bit of dog hair every time he laid down.

An easy way to solve this problem is to invest in a pet couch cover. These covers protect your couch from fur, scratches, stains, and more. Unfortunately, while some are fantastic at safeguarding your furniture, others are more annoying than effective.
In the reviews below, we’ll show you the best couch covers for dog hair that we’d recommend — and which ones are basically a waste of money.
The 10 Best Couch Covers for Dog Hair
Sofa Shield Pet Couch Cover – Best Value
The Sofa Shield has such a high thread count, it may well end up being more comfortable than your actual couch. This is a cover you’ll be happy to sit on and proud to show off, rather than an ugly-but-necessary addition to your furniture.
While the fabric is stretchy, the covers are available in four sizes, so you can start off with one that fits your sofa instead of trying to force a one-size-fits-all model onto it. The two-inch straps hold it in place remarkably well on most surfaces, and you can adjust them to further customize the fit as well.
Each cover is cut in such a way that there’s a generous amount of flap to protect the arms and back of the couch, giving you nearly-total coverage. Also, each one is backed by a lifetime warranty, which is surprising, given its low price point. It all adds up to make the Sofa Shield the best couch cover for dog hair for the money.
Of course, they’re not perfect. They tend to slip and slide on leather couches, so you will need to readjust them periodically. Other than that, though, there’s not much to quibble with here, which is why the Sofa Shield is our #2 pick.
- High thread count
- Available in 4 sizes
- Large, adjustable straps hold it place well
- Low price point with lifetime guarantee
- Flaps cover arms and back
- Slide around on leather sofas
PureFit Couch Sofa Cover – Best Overall
When you open up the package that the PureFit Couch Cover ships in, you’ll likely think there’s no way this thing will actually fit over your couch. It’s made of incredibly stretchy fabric, though, and it’s capable of covering a three-seater sofa.
It boasts a non-skid elastic bottom and non-slip foam anchors, so once you’ve got it where you want it, it should stay in place; however, if you have rambunctious dogs or boisterous children, you may still need to tuck it in occasionally. It’s not prone to wrinkling, either, so it should look sharp even after regular use.
It’s available in 10 different colors, allowing you to find one that matches your existing décor perfectly. It’s machine washable as well, so you can easily clean it if your pooch tracks mud all over it.
This all adds up to the finest sofa cover we found, which is why the PureFit is our top overall choice.
- Stretchy enough to fit three-seat sofa
- Non-skid elastic bottom
- Non-slip foam anchors
- Available in 10 colors
- Machine washable
- Still slips a bit if dogs get rowdy
Mambe Waterproof Couch Cover – Premium Choice
If your dog has a vengeful streak and makes a beeline for the sofa after every bath, the Mambe Waterproof is just what the doctor ordered. It’s also great for protecting your furniture from spills and other, uh, “accidents.”
While it’s machine washable, it’s also reversible, which is great news if you’re a little lazy. Both sides are equally attractive and designed so either one should pair with the same type of color scheme.
There’s a waterproof membrane in between the fleece on either side. The fleece soaks up moisture quickly, while the membrane limits the mess to only one side of the cover and prevents it from sinking through to the couch.
They’re each cut for a specific piece of furniture, ensuring that it should be easy to get a good fit. In addition to the couch, you can get one for your bed, loveseat, and even the recliner.
Now, it is on the expensive side, but not so much so that it’s out of reach compared to some of the other options listed here. Another problem we had with it is the fact that it absorbs so much moisture; while this is useful when you spill a soda, it makes washing (or, more accurately, drying it) a chore.
Still, the Mambe Waterproof is one of our favorite covers, and well-deserving of its high ranking on this list.
- Good for absorbing wet messes
- Machine washable
- Reversible, with equally attractive sides
- Cut for specific pieces of furniture
- A bit pricey
- A pain to dry
Bella Kline Reversible Sofa Cover
Like the Link Shades above, the Bella Kline has pockets on the side for storing all your necessary gear. Unlike that other cover, however, this one is extremely lightweight, so getting it to stay in place is a pain.
It’s easier to install than most other covers, as it simply tucks into your cushions rather than requiring you to figure out straps or adhesives. This lets you put it on in seconds, but as mentioned, it doesn’t do much to keep it from coming unstuck.
It’s also an absolute magnet for dog hair. That’s a good thing — that’s what you bought it for, right? — but you will need to wash it often, probably as much as every week. As a result, you may want to consider buying two so that your couch stays protected while one is in the wash.
The fabric is extremely slippery as well. You (or your clumsy dog) can easily slide right off it if you’re not careful, so it may not be a good choice for homes with extremely young or old people (or pets).
The Bella Kline shows promise, but it needs to do a better job of delivering on that promise before it’ll rise any higher on these rankings.
- Pockets for gear storage
- Easy to put on
- Captures dog hair well
- Comes off easily
- Requires frequent washing
- Extremely slippery
- Not suitable for homes with very young or old people
Furhaven Pet Furniture Cover
This offering from Furhaven has a bolster pillow that offers additional support, especially around the arms and back. It certainly makes the thing more comfortable, but at the expense of protecting your couch’s actual arms and back.
The pillows are filled with recycled material, though, so at least your conscience will be as pampered as your back. It’s also guaranteed to be the spot where your pup curls up at every opportunity, so don’t expect to be able to give it a test drive yourself.
It’s fairly small as well. You can buy it in multiple sizes, but even the extra-large won’t come close to covering a three-seat sofa, so expect to buy several or otherwise just abandon all hope of protecting one end of it.
The fabric is fairly thin, too, so it won’t last forever if you put it to heavy use. All in all, the Furhaven is an interesting option, but you’ll likely be happier with one of those ranked higher on this list.
- Has bolster pillow along back and sides
- Filled with recycled material
- Dogs love to curl up on it
- Pillow prevents it from covering couch’s back
- On the small side
- Fabric is thin and wears out quickly
Link Shades Couch Cover
Like the Mambe Waterproof above, the Link Shades handles spills and other moisture-based accidents with ease. The difference is that the Link Shades actively repels the liquid rather than soaking it in.
That’s good news for the cover, but that water has to go somewhere, and it could get to your couch fabric or carpet. Still, it gives you a few seconds to get a towel, anyway.
The microsuede fabric is extremely heavy, which makes it durable enough to stand up to quite a bit of abuse (like big dogs with long claws jumping all over it). You can also link several of them together to cover a large sectional.
One little touch we’re big fans of is the pocket on one side. It’s a great place to stash a book or a remote, and makes this cover more convenient, even if it doesn’t offer any value as far as protecting your couch.
It’s not all sunshine and daisies with this cover, however. The white material on the back of it comes off and gets all over everything, so you’ll be replacing pet hair with another nuisance. Also, the fabric’s “grippiness” erodes over time, making the Link Shades a solid-but-not-spectacular choice.
- Water-resistant fabric repels liquid
- Heavy and durable
- Can link several together
- Pocket for stashing remote on one side
- Can cause spills to reach carpet
- Material on back comes off easily
- Loses grip over time
Gorilla Grip Couch Slip Cover
With a name like “Gorilla Grip,” you’d expect this cover to stay in place well — and you’ll likely be disappointed.
It’s not reversible, and instead has a slip-resistant backing that’s designed to hold it in place even if your pup squirms and squiggles. There’s also a strap you can loop around the back of the couch.
The problem is that the backing actually seems to make the cover slide around more, and it falls apart after you wash it. Expect to find little pieces of rubber in your washing machine, dryer, on the couch…you get the idea.
It’s difficult to find a suitable way to attach the strap, and even if you do, it does little to hold the thing in place. It’s a lot of work for practically zero reward.
On the positive side, it is super-soft and comfortable. It may be worth buying the Gorilla Grip for that reason alone — just don’t expect it to do much else for you or your couch.
- Incredibly soft and comfortable
- Slides all over the place
- Anti-slip backing falls apart after washing
- Leaves little bits of rubber all over the place
- Strap is difficult to position
